Q.
Q.
How many training sessions does my dog need?
A.
A.
I can't say for sure how many training sessions you and your dog might need. It depends on your dogs individual behavior problems, environmental distractions, learning pace, and your commitment to work with and maintain the training as instructed. Not all dogs respond to certain training methods, that's why we usually try more than one approach, and see what's best for your dog.
You can't expect your dogs behavior to change over night, it takes time. I do recommend scheduling multiple training sessions. When I leave, I want to you to feel prepared, confident, and have the knowledge to continue to work with your dog.
The last thing we want to do is overwhelm your dog by attempting to teach too much, too fast.
Think of your dog as a seed you want to grow. You can neglect it, leaving it without sunlight and water, or you can set it up for a successful future, giving it what it needs to grow. Even though watering your seed is vital to its growth, too much water will make it wilt, and 'die'. Your seed CAN grow strong, and beautiful, but giving it lots of water at once will not make it grow faster.
When training we want to build a strong foundation for your dog to grow, flourish, and succeed! When we try to rush threw things we are bound to mess up and forced start all over again. Whenever we are training our dog, a good motto to follow is " BE POSITIVE, BE PATIENT, BE PERSISTANT ".

Q.
What do you charge? Why is the first session two hours?
A.
A.
Sessions are $60 for an hour, except the 1st session.
The first session is two hours long and costs a total of $120. This allows me time to see any behaviors you are having difficulty managing, and see what training methods they respond best to. It also allows me the time to go through information handouts with you. I also want to make sure you understand everything we talked about and give you time to ask questions.

Q.
-Can you train my dog for me?
-Why should I do private sessions instead of going to a board and train facility?
A.
A.
Lets get one thing straight:
I may be a dog trainer, but in reality I am a people trainer! Yes, I could train your dog and months later send them back to you. Now you have a well trained dog you have no connection with, and you have NO idea what to say, do, or how to handle them.
That is like if you needed a computer, but instead of an everyday, fast, easy to use computer... you got a high quality N.A.S.A computer coding computer, that has all kinds of buttons and whistles (that you don't really need) and to top it off, while you are trying to figure out how to use it, you lost the instruction manual!
Sounds like you wasted a lot of time and money that could have been spent on a reliable, user friendly computer.
Get it?
"Regardless of how good a dog trainer is, he or she cannot permanently modify your dog’s behavior and habits into something that YOU can manage on your own, in a home setting if you are not involved in the training process. Period.
If you have a dog that is exhibiting signs of aggression or unsociable behaviors, it can be very stressful and even traumatic. However, it comes as no surprise that thousands of people are lured by false promises that simply sending their dogs to an expensive facility for a couple of weeks will be the solution to all their problems.
To start off, it doesn’t matter one bit how well your dog ultimately learns to behave in a facility; it is his behavior at home that you are concerned about. It doesn’t matter how well a dog trainer can handle your dog; it is how well YOU can handle the dog that you are concerned about.
See where I am going here?
Trainers are experts in dealing with dog behavior, and a good trainer will have no problem getting your dog under control. But what happens next? What happens when the leash is handed back, and you take the dog home? You don’t have the experience of training dogs. In fact, we already know that you are experiencing problems handling your dog (why else would you send him for training?). You don’t know what commands to give, what signs of deteriorating behavior to look for, etc. This is a major problem because your dog lives with you in your home, not the dog trainer in a training facility.
So, it’s simple really. For you to change your dog’s behavior, you need to be involved in the training process, and this training process needs to take place with you and your family. It doesn’t matter if you’re teaching a dog not to bark at the door, to walk properly on a leash, to stop chewing the furniture, or to stop chasing delivery drivers down the street… YOU are the person who needs to be in control."

Q.
Q.
-Do you have group training classes?
- When and where do you have group classes?
A.
A.
Yes I do offer group training classes. As of right now we do not have an indoor training room, but are constantly looking around at places to rent or lease. So for right now group classes will be held outside at a local Troy park when weather permits.
Q.
Q.
-What if I have multiple dogs that need training?
A.
A.
If you have dogs that need training because ,for example, they don't get along, they are fighting, or other reasons then I may recommend starting the 1st training session with them together so I can see what is going on. From there, I will determine if separate, individual training sessions would be best for them, or if we should continue working with each dog together.

If your dogs are having separate behavior problems, then we can either schedule an hour for each dog, or split each session so each dog can get time worked with one on one.
NOTE: when working with multiple dogs together each dog MUST have ONE person working with them. One person per dog.
